For so many years, I struggled with what my purpose is in life. As a Christian, it’s a given that our purpose in Christ is to show forth his praise and tell of His goodness, but when it got to the personal level of what I was supposed to do with my life outside “church”, I was utterly confused. My case was severe cause it appeared I basically lacked deep interest for anything. I always knew I wanted to help teens anyway I could cause of my struggles as a teen but I couldn’t point to anything I was deeply passionate about or interested in that set my soul on fire to the extent where I felt confident enough to say this is what I was born to do in life. I was looking for that fire, the pounding of my chest, the “feel right” sensation so much so, I felt utterly empty, useless and helpless. I prayed, I read all I could, Watched motivational and inspirational speeches (that almost left me confused, almost ohhh! 😀). Some gurus said there is no specific purpose to man’s existence and trying to find that one purpose is what causes misery and of course some argue you must find your specific purpose to be fulfilled (you know, like the soul mate or no soul mate issue 😉).
But anyway, to cut the very long and boring story short, I had one of my “aha” moments when I was talking with my cousin who was trying to also find her place on earth. We reminisced about her trajectory in life; we looked one after the other at her struggles, looked at her interests, and noticed that even without knowing it, she was always leaning toward helping women out. Somehow, she was always assigned to play that role wherever she found herself. So simply put, I said to her, wow, you went through what you went through because God wants you to help other women. We both were in awe of that simple revelation and of course what was left was to figure out a way to develop it and build her brand, which we did. So now she makes a living fulfilling her purpose even though it didn’t even start out as a money making venture, but you know what God’s word says, your gift will make room for you. I knew from that day moving on that i was born to help others identify their purpose and live their best, most fulfilling and rewarding life. Even, following my trajectory of ideas and projects before that time, they all involved me one way or another trying to help people live their best life.
From a holistic standpoint, nothing that had happened in my life gave me a greater sense of joy, satisfaction and fulfilment than that very moment and the preceding events. My love for people and my desire to help them live their best life is a huge part of me living my best life.
Remember, sometimes the passion finds you, and sometimes, you find the passion by “doing”. Dont wait to see fire, “DO”, create and invest your time, and you just might find that fire you’ve been yearning for, just needed a little kindling. The purpose of every human being is to service humanity in whatever form or capacity you can and were gifted by God to. Until you have genuine love and kindness in your heart not just for yourself but others, you might not easily identify what your purposes are on earth. By this I mean finding out ways to serve humanity will be the last question on your mind when all you are concerned with is for example, joining the “30 billion gang” before 30… 😉 ( just saying… 😀 issa joke ooo, money is good, especially when you don’t have to compromise your authenticity or morals to get it.). This is one of the major reasons some people struggle to fulfill their purpose. Living a life of purpose goes beyond being wealthy, beyond asking, “How do I make my millions?” or even, “How can I live a purposeful life?” Instead, ask yourself, “What can I do to serve humanity?”
We know fulfilling purpose is rewarding, but it requires a great deal of selflessness. Adding value to the lives of others is at the core of it all. This can be as simple as putting a smile on someone’s face, lending a helping hand, speaking up for those who can’t speak for themselves, or offering inspiring solutions and answers to major problem areas in their lives.
So just incase you’re having trouble figuring out what your purpose is, think about areas you have struggled with and overcome and help others with lessons you have learnt along the way to make their journey easier. Always look at it from the angle of, what do I have or know that someone else needs? How can I improve and build on what I have so that it is of tremendous value to others? How can I be of service? How can I help? Trust me its not as complicated as most people make it sound. If it has been your challenge, I know exactly how you feel cause I’ve been there. Basically, whether you are a teen, an adult or an elder, let love lead the way, cause you are never not qualified to live a life of purpose. Nothing can disqualify you from being relevant and from living your best life. You are an ever qualified candidate for living a balanced life in authenticity, love and purpose.
It is my Prayer for you today that in this new year, all the questions you need answers to start living a life of purpose be answered now and the rest answered as you go. I love you and I am rooting for you. So take a step today towards living your best life possible. I BELIEVE IN YOU!!!
